DeSantis Mini Scabbard (Photo courtesy of DeSantis Holster) Holsters don't have to be fancy. They just have to work, and if they look good while doing so, all the better. The Mini Scabbard —shown here with the new Springfield SA-35, a re-creation of the famous Browning Hi Power—is a handsome, stripped-down holster that provides a secure fit thanks to excellent molding as well as a simple tension adjustment screw (not available on all models). Drawing is silky smooth, and the Mini Scabbard accommodates belts up to 1.75 inches. Shown is the unlined leather version; it's also available in black. Fitments include models from two dozen handgun companies.

Ed Brown 1911 Magazines (Photo courtesy of Ed Brown) The .45 ACP 8-rounder (right) has a removable base and engineered as a true 8-rounder, with a lengthened steel tube to handle the extra round. Other features include a steel follower and heavy-duty spring, and the tough integral base pad comes off easily for magazine cleaning. A special finish makes the tube and follower slick for easy insertion into the gun and eliminates friction during loading. Blank-number templates on the bottom of the pad allow for easy labeling. The 7-round .45 ACP (left) gives 1911 shooters the option of interchangeable bases that screw into the magazine. Leave the pad off for a flush fit, install the slim one for a low profile that provides a little extra length for sure seating, or go with the thick pad if you have an extended mag well. This style is also available in 9mm, .38 Super and 10mm.

Crimson Trace Rad Micro Pro (Photo courtesy of Crimson Trace) Designed for compacts and subcompacts, the Rad Micro Pro red version (there’s also a green one) has a three m.o.a. dot run by an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts brightness. The dot will power down after two minutes of no movement, and a motion sensor instantly turns the dot back on when the gun exhibits any movement. The aluminum-body sight fits the Shield RMS/JPoint footprints, and top of the sight is specially designed to deflect force if dropped. Powered by a bottom-mounted CR2016 battery; battery life is two years.

Versacarry Rebel (Photo courtesy of Versacarry) This outside-the-waistband holster employs a custom-molded polymer front with a high-quality leather backing for body-conforming comfort. The latter has a sweat guard, and the design is optics compatible. It has adjustable tension and a forward cant that I found about right for carrying just behind the hip. It’s available for the Springfield Armory Hellcat, SIG P365 and Taurus GX4. (The Rebel can also be had in an inside-the-waistband model.)

ALPS OutdoorZ Ghost 30 EDC (Photo courtesy of ALPS OutdoorZ) Off-body carry, while not ideal in everyone’s eyes, is increasingly common, and the new pack from ALPS is a low-key model made of tough, light Cordura. It has padded shoulder straps with an integrated chest strap, but the selling point here is zippered, ambidextrous carry pocket position behind the back panel. These are designed to fit hook-and-loop style holsters (not included), and there are interior pockets for spare mags. If you’re using it as a hiking pack, it is hydration compatible, and a rain cover is included.
