Insight Technologies' Procyon weapon light offers three output options with the flick of a thumb.

Insight Technologies has been making some incredible inroads into the market for handheld and gun-mounted lights and lasers. Its latest light, the XTI Procyon, is another high-quality addition to the line.

The Procyon is a weapon-mounted light with a rugged, lightweight housing of hard-anodized aluminum. It is meant to slide right onto any Picatinny-spec accessory rail, although a smaller latch bar comes with the unit to facilitate mounting it on guns with different rail systems.

The four-ounce light (with batteries) is waterproof to 30 feet and features a shockproof LED that puts out a blinding 125 lumens of white light. The back of the light has a pair of toggle switches for ambidextrous operation. Up is the constant on position, down is momentary, and tapping the light twice in either direction produces a disorienting strobe light.

I mounted the Procyon on a Kimber SIS I had on hand for testing. It slid right onto the rail and locked up nice and tight. Operating the light was easy, even with my small hands. I used my support-hand thumb to engage the toggle switch.

The Procyon is a rugged, well-made unit with more than enough light output to disorient or temporarily blind bad guys. If you're in the market for a weapon-mounted light, I highly recommend it.
