The Importance of Double-Checking A Cleared Handgun

August 12th, 2011 1

Tom Gresham and Jerry Lee discuss the importance of always double-checking that a handgun is cleared of ammunition.

  • Brice Alden

Mr. Lee passes his left hand in front of the barrel of the gun before he clears it. As he grasps the slide with his left hand it appears that his right index finger is laying against the side of the trigger. He also passes his left hand in front of the barrel of the gun after he clears it. If he left the slide locked back when he handed the gun to Mr. Gresham, it would have been easier for Mr. Gresham to check the chamber. Before Mr. Gresham clears the gun he almost points it at Mr. Lee's left arm and then almost at Mr. Lee's left hand.
