The newest weapon-mounted light from Insight Technology is an LED version of its popular M3 Tactical. The M3X is built on the M3′s lightweight, polymer body with a new knurled, aluminum head that houses its high-intensity LED.
The M3X’s LED emits 125 lumens of blinding, pure white light. That’s more than enough to light up any standard size living room or temporarily incapacitate any assailant. Thanks to the efficiency of the LED, the M3X runs 120 minutes on its two 123 batteries.
The new light’s polymer body and aluminum head produce a lightweight, rugged unit that is quite compact given its considerable output. It attaches without tools via Insight’s Universal Slide-Lock interface. By pressing the locking bar downward, you can slide the unit right onto just about any gun. The test unit slid right onto an S&W M&P Pro and a Springfield Operator 1911 without a hitch.
Insight’s standard polymer back plate with twin rocker switches allows you to employ the momentary or constant-on modes easily. For right-handed shooters, pushing down with the support hand thumb activates the momentary setting. Sliding the rocker switch up engages the constant-on mode. Even with my small hands, I found the switch easy to engage.
